Round Box

I didn't have a lot of inspiration this weekend, but I wanted to keep practicing with the Part Design workbench on FreeCAD, so I made a little round box.

FreeCAD design of a round box, with the lid slightly up, so you can see the small groove inside the box, to keep the lid in place

The exterior diameter is 80mm, and the interior diameter is 75mm. The height of the box is 40mm, so it's quite roomy to store small things.\ I have no clue what I'm going to use it for, but really, only seeing an object I designed there on the table is so cool I don't care if I don't end up using it.

I printed the box with fuzzy skin (first try!) and I like the textured effect. Surprisingly, the fuzzy effect doesn't add a lot of printing time, maybe only around 30 minutes.

I also used this as an opportunity to try printing with a higher speed. I usually print at 50mm/s, and until now I had only tried to print slower, at 20mm/s for TPU. For this box, I printed it at 80mm/s, the maximum recommended for this filament (PLA Value Pack from Creality).

It ended up nicely:

White round box with the lid on

The first version of the lid was 76,4mm in diameter, so it slid inside the box and rested on the small groove. The result didn't convince me completely, so I did this second version that matches the diameter of the box.

I wonder how would it look with the lid having fuzzy skin as well, but I don't think it's possible. At least not with Cura.

I'm happy with the result, now I only need to find a use for it. 😄
